The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 65 year old male who had been in jail since August 8, 2019, charged with six counts of distribution of illegal narcotics. When he was booked into the jail, he did not state any serious medical issues. He had seen the jail physician a few days prior to his death. Early in the morning of October 23, the victim collapsed to the floor in his dormitory. CPR was administered by a deputy sheriff. Northshore EMS responded to the jail and transported the inmate to Riverside Medical Center. He died at the hospital from what appears to be natural causes. The St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office is conducting an autopsy in an effort to determine the exact cause of death while the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office detective division is conducting an internal investigation.
