Former candidate for Sheriff Nick Tranchina endorsed Sheriff Randy Smith for re-election over his challenger Tim Lentz. Tranchina indicated that over the last several days he met with both candidates, spoke with supporters, and with deputies inside the agency. He said the deputies’ opinion of who they wanted as their sheriff moving forward, more than anything, guided his decision of who to endorse. Tranchina, a 17-year veteran of the Mandeville Police Department and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, finished with 21% of the vote on October 12. Smith led with 46%, Lentz had 32%.
The General Election is November 16th.
