Sheriff Daniel Edwards says his office is still investigating two shooting that happened earlier this week.
The first investigation began Sunday evening around 9 p.m. when deputies responded to the Kangaroo Gas station on University Ave. after receiving reports of shots fired between two vehicles as they fled northbound for a chase lasted for about 8 miles before coming to end in the Natalbany Food Mart parking lot. Thankfully only one person was injured. The altercation was between 26 YO Troy Green of Hammond, and 24 YO Octavius Baldwin of Hammond. 20 YO Trent Swift sustained a single non-life-threatening gunshot wound. On Jan. 28, Baldwin was taken into custody without incident and charged with three counts of attempted second-degree murder. Additional arrests and charges are forthcoming.
Two days later, TPSO received a call about a shooting that occurred on Rufus Bankston Rd. Deputies arrived to find a 17-year-old juvenile lying in the grass with a single gunshot to the hip. The juvenile was transported to a nearby medical facility where he was treated for his injury and released. Detectives believe the two shootings may be linked. The investigation is ongoing.
