Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal released the Slidell Police Department’s 2019 Uniform Crime Reports (UCR), and has also included the crimes statistics from the past nine years. Fandal reported that overall crime was down 3.4%. While violent crime is down, property crime, such as thefts and auto thefts, are up. Vehicle break-ins are categorized under “Theft”, which has contributed significantly to the rise in those numbers. Fandal said he can’t stress enough for people to lock their car doors and hide all valuables out of sight. Slidell Police recently arrested several juvenile burglary rings, which were responsible for several of the reported vehicle burglaries across Slidell.
