The unexpected strength of Olga left thousands of customers in the dark over the weekend, and some were still without power as of this morning. At the height of the storm, more than 100,000 customers lost power. Sustained winds across the region at 45 miles per hour with gusts over 60, brought down trees, limbs, power lines and poles. Utility crews were continuing work to get the remaining customers back on the grid, assisted by parish government workers. Their crews removed approximately 30 trees from multiple roads in the Covington, Abita Springs, Bush, Mandeville and Hickory areas. In some instances, crews had to wait to remove trees that were entangled in power lines. As of last night, Entergy reported that about 14,000 outages remained in the metro. The highest number were in Jefferson Parish, followed by Tangipahoa. CLECO reported more than 7,300 addresses with no electricity. The vast majority of those are in St. Tammany Parish. Washington St Tammany Co-op says they have replaced over 20 poles since Tropical Storm Olga and have more to go. As of last night, they were still addressing large outages from their Savannah Branch and Folsom substations. By parish they show about 2,000 without power in St Tammany. Tangipahoa had 264, Washington had 463.
