U.S. Attorney Peter Strasser announced that 48 YO Carlos Cantu-Cox, and his husband, 37 YO Christopher Cantu-Cox, both of Pasadena, Texas, pleaded guilty to distributing ketamine that resulted in the death of a Slidell, Louisiana teenager. The eighteen year old’s dead body was found floating in a Texas bayou. The Cantu-Coxes were large-scale meth suppliers to the Houston and New Orleans area. One of their customers was an eighteen year old from Slidell, who frequently traveled to Texas to stay at their home. During one of these visits, the teenager was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and the Cantu-Coxes posted his bond. The teenager did not appear for his Texas court appearances and the Cantu-Coxes told their New Orleans customers that they wanted the teenager so they could transport him back to Texas and recover their bond. With the help of others, the teenager was drugged to be returned to Texas, but somewhere near the Louisiana-Texas border, the teenager stopped breathing. The Cantu-Coxes disposed of his body in a nearby waterway. U.S. District Court Judge Wendy B. Vitter will sentence the pair on May 5, 2020.
