Local government officials are watching the potential for tropical cyclone development in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. There is a MEDIUM (40%) chance of tropical cyclone development over the next 5 days. This system may begin to slowly develop late Thursday night over the western Gulf and then is expected to move generally northeastward and could bring some impacts to the northern Gulf Coast in the next 3 to 5 days. At this time impacts will be highly dependent on development and eventual track. Regardless of development, this system is expected to bring a threat of heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and elevated tides to the area late Friday through Saturday.
