The Louisiana National Guard is responding to the coronavirus crisis statewide, with the largest number of soldiers concentrated in metro New Orleans. Their disaster relief and response missions have about 1,200 soldiers doing anything from preparing meals, distributing personal protective equipment, securing space for emergency shelters and even swabbing people with coronavirus symptoms at drive-thru testing sites.
The Louisiana National Guard said it is not operating in any law enforcement capacity right now and wants people to be aware that rumors of interstate shutdowns or forced quarantines are fake. They said to be wary of messages like that circulating online, even if they appear to feature the Louisiana National Guard logo.
