This is Luke Bertel. He came to see us today with Liz from the Blood Center to talk about the importance of giving blood. Learn more about his story in the interview below. You can donate toward his recovery HERE.
Here is more of Luke’s story from his website…
Luke Bertel is a fun-loving 10 year old who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia this past week. The diagnosis came as a complete surprise in that he had been healthy, up until he was thought to have a stomach bug. Within 2 days time of his initial pediatrician appointment, prompted by an abnormal blood test, he had 3 invasive procedures and was given a life-changing diagnosis. Luke is a 4th grader at Christ Episcopal School in Covington, La. He is intelligent, inquisitive, very chatty, personable, and kind-hearted. He lives for his family and lacrosse. He plays goalie for the CES U10 lacrosse team and the U10 Team Louisiana lacrosse team. He is loved by all of his teammates and coaches, and his presence on the field will be missed this summer.
Up next we had Erica and Susan, who dropped by to talk about Live Well Northshore. This is a free, one day screening event at the Covington Trailhead, courtesy of Mary Bird Perkins and the Ben Blanchard Foundation. Hear more in the interview below.

The Benjamin Blanchard Memorial Foundation keeps alive Ben’s spirit of love for community and encouraging others through school leadership, educational programs, and scholarships; as well as supporting cancer services in the Greater New Orleans and Covington areas.
And we spoke with Margot and Bonnie about Constitution Week with a local chapter from Daughters of the American Revolution. Hear what they said in the interview below.
