Today is Inauguration Day as the Governor, lawmakers, and area parish government officials take their oaths.
In Tangipahoa, Parish President Robby Miller and the 10-member Tangipahoa Parish Council will be sworn in during ceremonies scheduled at 3 p.m. at the Florida Parishes Arena Event Center in Amite.
Mike Cooper will take his oath of office as St. Tammany Parish president at the Fuhrmann Auditorium at noon today, along with 14 members of the Parish Council. Cooper defeated two-term incumbent Pat Brister in November after he served two terms as the mayor of Covington.
In Baton Rouge, the new House of Representatives will gather at 10 a.m. to take the oath of office and elect their leadership for the 2020-2023 term. Across the hall, the Senate will also gather at 10 a.m. to be sworn in and elect their leadership. Then at 11:30 today, Gov. John Bel Edwards will take the oath of office for the second time on the steps of the Louisiana State Capitol.
