The Hammond Police Department is investigating several burglaries within the neighborhoods of University Avenue and along South Cherry Street. Most of the burglaries are occurring while people are out of town overnight or for several days. One burglary on South Cherry Street is believed to have occurred at approximately 3:45 am on December 15. At that time, two male subjects were seen in the victim’s backyard and left on foot. Hammond Police Chief Edwin Bergeron Jr. says that thefts and burglaries do tend to increase during the holidays. He says it is important for citizens to stay vigilant by double-checking that homes and cars are locked and by quickly reporting any suspicious activity. Anyone with information on these burglaries is asked to contact the Hammond Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, at 985-277-5740 or through Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa’s anonymous tip line at 1-800-554-5245. Be part of the solution and you may be eligible for a cash reward.
