The City of Slidell, Leadership Northshore Alumni, CLECO, Southside Café, and others have created a new program to honor local veterans and active duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces. The Hometown Heroes Banner Program provides the opportunity for a citizen residing in St. Tammany Parish to purchase a banner to recognize military heroes who have honorably served or are currently serving our country. The banners will be placed along Front Street in Slidell starting in May on Memorial Day and will on display through Veterans Day in November. Applications to purchase a banner are now being accepted. The cost for each banner is $195. There is limited space available and applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Forty poles along Front Street in Slidell have been designated to display the banners and brackets to hang the banners have been purchased. The first 40 applications received, vetted and paid, will receive a space in the inaugural Hometown Heroes Banner Program. After the first 40 spots have been filled, applicants will be notified that they will need to reapply the following year. To download a copy of the Hometown Heroes application, go to www.leadershipnorthshore.com/pearl-award-alumnus. Applications are only accepted via email at HometownHero@LeadershipNorthshore.com.
