DOTD announced yesterday that the scheduled shift for traffic using the Tangipahoa River Bridge on LA 16 east of Amite will not begin at the previously expected time. Now that bridge closure will begin on Friday, Oct. 25, and continue into March 2021. When crews close the existing bridge, traffic will be shifted onto a temporary bridge adjacent to the current one. DOTD said traffic will be maintained through the work zone at all times; however, oversize loads over 11 feet wide will not be allowed. The LA 16 Tangipahoa River bridge, located 1.5 miles east of US 51 (NW Central Ave.) and 0.5 west of LA 1054, will be closed for bridge demolition. All traffic will be diverted onto the newly constructed detour road located adjacent to the old bridge.
