Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reported the arrest of 22- year -old Hammond resident Tyrius Young, who was taken into custody and charged with manslaughter over an incident that occurred on Rogers Road in Hammond.
Shortly before midnight on Friday, Sept. 20th, while deputies were working a security detail in the Emergency Room at North Oaks Medical Center, they encountered two subjects suffering from gunshot wounds. While investigating the incident, 22-year -old Tyrius Young of Hammond, LA. told deputies that he was involved in a physical altercation with one of the subjects, 19-year-old Adrius “AJ” Warren of Independence, when a handgun he was holding accidentally discharged as he was being punched by Warren. Warren was subsequently shot in the chest as a result. Young’s mother, who was present at the scene of the altercation, was also accidentally struck in the hip by stray gunfire. Both subjects were transported to the medical facility by friends or family members.

Warren was immediately rushed into the operating room, where, despite the surgeon’s efforts, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after 1am. Young’s mother was treated and released. The investigation is on-going.
