Since February 13, there have been five reported burglaries of church offices. After the first one, the Hammond Police Department started an investigation and began tying them together as more similar burglaries occurred. On February 17, a photo of the suspect was obtained from video surveillance. A break in the case was made on February 18, when a K-9 officer remembered speaking to the suspect the night of the initial burglary. A warrant was issued after the suspect was identified as Tim Allen, 46 years old of Hammond, for 5 counts of burglary. Allen was arrested and brought to HPD for questioning where he confessed to all the recent church burglaries. Chief Bergeron would like to acknowledge the attentive K-9 officer who recognized the suspect from nights before, thus allowing detectives to ultimately make an arrest in this case.
