The Hammond Police Department would like to warn everyone of two separate scams going around. The first scam is an individual calling people, identifying himself as a Hammond Police Officer, asking for donations for the Department. The individual impersonating a Police Officer repeatedly ask for credit card information and to send money in the mail. The Hammond Police Department is not making phone calls to anyone, asking for donations. Do not give these individuals your credit card information. The second scam is an individual calling people, telling them one of their loved one was involved in an at fault crash. They then say to place a large sum of money in a book and send it to a random out of state address to avoid being sued or to get their loved ones out of jail. Again, this is a scam! If this happens, please call your loved ones they are speaking of to make sure they are okay and do not send them money.
