Federal officials are advising Americans not to cruise, with that announcement coming just weeks after New Orleans port officials announced a record number of cruise passengers and expectations for a great year. The federal government notes that in order to curb the spread of COVID-19, many countries have implemented strict screening procedures that have denied port entry rights to ships and prevented passengers from disembarking. New Orleans has become the sixth-largest cruise port in the United States. It is not clear how the government travel advisory will impact future cruises. The cruise lines are still offering cruises and, in some cases, offering incentives.
