Yesterday, shortly after 8:30 AM, Troopers from Troop L responded to a fatal crash involving a pickup truck and Tractor-Trailer on LA 43 southbound at Rohner Rd. in St. Helena Parish. The crash claimed the life of 49-year-old Shawn McNelis of Ventress. The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as McNelis was driving a 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck eastbound on Rohner Rd. For reasons still under investigation, McNelis failed to stop at the intersection with LA 43. McNelis’ vehicle struck a Peterbilt Tractor-Trailer traveling southbound on LA 43. McNelis received fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. All drivers and the passenger were restrained at the time of the crash.
