On Tuesday, shortly before 7:00 PM, Troopers from Troop L responded to a single-vehicle, fatal crash on the I-10 East Entrance Ramp at LA 433. The crash has claimed the life of 71-year-old Jesse Q. Sewell IV of Slidell. The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as a Chrysler Town and Country van, driven by Sewell, was traveling westbound on LA 433 merging onto the Interstate 10 East Entrance Ramp. For reasons still under investigation, Sewell’s vehicle exited off the roadway and impacted a tree. Despite Sewell wearing a seatbelt, he received fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. At this time, speed is a contributing factor in the crash, and impairment is not suspected. As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology will be performed on Sewell by St. Tammany Coroner’s Office.
