Yesterday Governor John Bel Edwards said the sharp rise in coronavirus cases and deaths since the beginning of the week shows Louisianans need to do a better job at staying home. The governor said he has yet to see any evidence that we are beginning to flatten the curve. He added that the order’s going to continue, and compliance has to improve to see better results. Edwards said the state remains on a path to overwhelm medical resources in less than a week. He has ordered the temporary hospital being set up at the Morial Convention Center to increase to 2,000 beds. Even with an additional 150 ventilators coming from the national stockpile, Edwards said the New Orleans region will surpass its ventilator capacity by April 5. Edwards said he is ready to keep stay-at-home guidelines in place and schools closed through the end of April after the White House announced it is recommending the same time frame.
