Deputies from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office will be conducting multiple DWI checkpoints between now and the end of the year at undisclosed locations in St. Tammany Parish. The checkpoints are part of the ongoing, proactive “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign to combat impaired driving. The manpower for this initiative is funded by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. Sheriff Randy Smith said they hope the checkpoints serve as a deterrent to drinking and driving. He added that if you choose to consume alcohol, don’t drive. Choose a non-drinking friend as your designated driver or if you can’t arrange for a ride home, call them at 985-898-2338 for a safe ride home this holiday season without cost or penalty.
