Prosecutors will find out today if three more people who allege they were sexually abused by former St. Tammany Sheriff Jack Strain will be allowed to testify against him at his trial on eight counts of sex crimes. Strain will appear in 22nd Judicial District Court before an ad hoc judge who is scheduled to rule on a number of motions. The DA’s Office argues in a motion that evidence from the three proposed witnesses will show that Strain’s growing power in St. Tammany afforded him even more opportunity to abuse his victims. Strain, who was sheriff for 20 years, has pleaded not guilty to the eight counts he was charged with in state court and also to a 16-count federal corruption indictment.
