Last night, Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer declared a State of Emergency in the City of Slidell, ordering all city facilities closed to the public. These closures include Slidell City Hall, the Slidell Municipal Auditorium, the Slidell Municipal Airport terminal, the Slidell Cultural Center at City Hall, the Slidell Museum and Slidell Mardi Gras Museum, city offices, city conference and meeting rooms, city gymnasiums and city parks and restroom facilities including John Slidell Park, Heritage Park, Fritchie Park, Possum Hollow Park, and neighborhood parks. Exclusions to the closures includes the Slidell Municipal Airport runway for incoming and departing flights (the terminal remains closed to the public) and the Slidell Business Campus located at 1010 Gause Blvd. which remains open for the businesses operating from that facility. In addition, all public meetings have been cancelled until April 13, including the Slidell City Council Meeting scheduled for March 24.
The City of Slidell is following all CDC guidelines to protect citizens and employees. City offices are closed to the public, but essential personnel will be available to conduct business via phone or email. The city directory of departmental phone numbers and emails can be found on the city’s website at MySlidell.com/contact-us/.
The City of Slidell is in frequent contact with the State of Louisiana and St. Tammany Parish and is following their recommendations on how to keep the community safe. Team Slidell – Slidell Memorial Hospital, Slidell Police Department, St. Tammany Parish Fire District 1, and the City of Slidell – continues working together to provide efficient and effective services.
The City of Slidell encourages citizens to remain calm, stay informed by reliable news sources and follow CDC guidelines such as frequently washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, practice social distancing by avoiding close contact with other people, cough in the crook of your arm, and stay at home if you are sick to prevent the spread of this virus to the elderly and those with autoimmune issues.
