Rising water on the Mississippi has the Army Corps of Engineers considering opening the Bonnet Carre spillway. It would be a record third consecutive year if that happens. The Corps will make its decision by Friday. Current forecasts call for the river to rise to a level of 17.3 feet at the Carrollton gauge by April 11, which could be enough to trigger an opening. Unlike past openings, this one would not be open to the public, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the need to keep people from gathering in large groups.
