A woman was injured when her SUV was struck by an Amtrak passenger train at a crossing in Metairie. The accident happened just before 3 p.m. on Central Avenue when the 49-year-old woman reportedly drove around crossing gates and was hit by the train. The woman was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office plans on citing the woman for failing to yield.
