Two people were arrested in connection with a shooting Wednesday night in the Cross Creek Subdivision in Amite. 29 YO Broderick McKnight of Amite has been charged with attempted 2nd degree murder and obstruction of justice in the shooting which occurred around 9 p.m. Wednesday west of Sullivan’s Drive In. McKnight is accused of shooting the victim five times while the man was sitting in his car waiting to pick up a companion. The victim exited the vehicle and took the weapon, a 9 mm handgun, from the shooter. The victim was able to identify the shooter to police who arrested him on the attempted murder charge and obstruction for allegedly setting fire to the clothes he was wearing at the time of the shooting. A woman, 20 YO Taylor Leonard, of Amite, was also charged as an accessory after the fact and obstruction. The victim is expected to make a complete recovery.
