The Hammond Police Department, assisted by the Baton Rouge Police Department, was able to disrupt what is believed to be a multi-state criminal organization that was committing armed robberies at jewelry stores. On February 13, at approximately 5:15 pm, HPD received a robbery call from Kay Jewelers, at 201 Palace Drive. Three black males wearing hoodies entered the store, destroyed jewelry cases with a sledgehammer, and robbed the store of approximately $69,000 worth of jewelry. The suspects left the store and fled the area in a white Toyota Avalon with Texas license plates. A bystander was able to photograph the suspect vehicle as it sped away. Officers responded within minutes and saturated the area. Information was quickly disseminated to law enforcement agencies along the I-12 corridor. At approximately 6:00 pm, Baton Rouge police officers stopped the suspect vehicle. The following suspects were taken into custody: Ellis Gholson, 43 years old of Houston, Texas; Kameron McCoy, 21 years old of Houston, Texas; Frederick Gibson, Jr., 22 years old of Fresno, Texas; and Travion Walker, 29 years old of Houston, Texas. The investigation is ongoing.
