Joshua Brewer, a 28-year-old Slidell man who had been working as a long-term substitute teacher at Slidell High School, was booked into St. Tammany Parish Jail last week on one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile. A St. Tammany public schools spokesperson said that Brewer is no longer employed by the system and that he was terminated prior to his arrest. According to sheriff’s spokesman Capt. Scott Lee, a family member of the victim reached out to the state Department of Child and Family Services, and that agency notified the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, which launched an investigation. Authorities suspect that Brewer and the juvenile communicated via a social media app.
