In Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards defeated two challengers and was re-elected to his fifth term in office. Edwards, with 58 percent of the vote, defeated Cameron Crocket and Arden Wells. His new term begins in July 2020.
On the Parish Council in District 2 it will be Ingraffia and Varnado in a runoff. In District 9 it will be Hyde versus Bridges.
In Ponchatoula, incumbent Mayor Bob Zabbia will face Steve Pugh in a Nov. 16 run-off. Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Layrisson easily won re-election to his post.
And it looks like Independence voters will swear in a new mayor in July of 2020. Alderman Jim Paine defeated incumbent Mayor Angelo Mannino. Paine got 54 percent of the vote in the win.
