Chief Edwin Bergeron commented this morning on Tangi 96.5 about a shooting that occurred last night. It was described as a “domestic” incident that unfolded at North Oak Park. Southeastern Police are handling the investigation with an assist from Hammond Police. Southeastern sent out an emergency message about the shooting to students last night. One suspect is in custody and another is in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. This is a developing story and officials should provide an update later today.

Update:
On Tuesday at approximately 5:45 pm, the Hammond Police Department was called to assist the Southeastern Louisiana University Police Department for a shooting incident that occurred at North Oak Park, located at 2699 North Oak Street.
During the investigation, it was determined that a domestic argument turned into a shooting. The victim sought treatment for non-life threating injuries at North Oaks Medical Center. HPD and UPD were able to locate the suspect, Robert Elzey, 44 of Hammond. Elzey was charged with aggravated second degree battery and taken to the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.
