Slow your roll. Mayor Mark Johnson unveiled a “Slow Your Roll” campaign this week for the City of Covington. He said when campaigning for office, constituents across the city asked if elected, what would he do about people who drive too fast and ignore stop signs. Right now he said he is politely asking motorists to slow down when driving through the city’s streets. He said that in November, those warnings will turn into traffic citations for those who choose to exceed the speed limit. Johnson said an estimated 15,000 cars drive into and out of Covington on weekdays and the city’s streets were laid out a century ago, and those in the historic downtown district designed 200 years ago. About 250 yellow and black yard signs have appeared around town reminding drivers to “Slow Your Roll,” with another 250 on the way. Covington Police have produced a 2-minute video promotional video that tries to influence drivers who disregard speed limits and traffic signs. In the video, the mayor, Covington Police Chief Stephen Culotta, several CPD officers and Covington residents remind viewers they shouldn’t be in too big of a hurry on Covington’s streets.
