Law enforcement officers from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, Covington Police Department, Slidell Police Department, Probation and Parole, and other departments, participated in a 40-hour Crisis Intervention Team training last week at the STPSO Training Facility.
The CIT course was instructed by deputies from STPSO Crisis Intervention Team as well as subject matter experts and clinicians from the regional area.
This course was the first 40-hour CIT course taught by the STPSO after receiving their instructor certification through a grant. Also providing assistance and instructors were NAMI-St. Tammany, Florida Parishes Human Services Authority and the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office.
The STPSO will continue to provide Crisis Intervention Team trainings in the future to improve law enforcement interactions with those dealing with a mental illness or substance abuse addictions.
