Crews from as many as 9 departments across St Tammany battled a fire burning at a scrap yard that sent towers of black smoke into the sky. Tires, garbage, and scrap began burning at P&W Industries off of Hwy. 59 at around 8:00 a.m. yesterday. Fire officials said it took some time to get the entire fire put out. Out of an abundance of caution officials said that everyone downwind of the fire needed to close their windows and remain indoors if possible.
